Our story

Made by friends,
guided by place.

Founded in 2020 by a group of friends in Southern Virginia, akyn began as a simple bet: that this land, these grapes, and a little patience could make something worth drinking. We make very small quantities (usually around 20 cases per wine) in Chatham, VA, and we're figuring it out as we go.

We let local yeast and hybrid grapes do most of the talking. Virginia's native microflora give our wines a character you can't fake or import. Chambourcin, Traminette, Chardonel. These aren't the flashy varietals you'll find on Wine Spectator covers, and that's exactly the point.

We follow Mary Oliver's three rules: Genuine body. Sincere energy. Spiritual purpose. We think those translate pretty well from poetry to wine.
